ABOUT...

Since you made it this far you probably already know me pretty well because I've mainly distributed this web address just to good friends and travel buddies. So I'll spare you the usual "about-the-author" blah-blah-blah here.

Instead of talking about me, I think a few words about this project might be of more interest. As of 2020 I've visited ninety-something countries and have over 30 thousand travel photos, not even counting all the old paper prints from back in the film days. I've pondered over what to do with all these photos for many years. Many of the pics range from 'meh' to tossable but there are a lot of gems and I wanted to do something productive with the best landscape, scenery, and cultural photos in my collection. So the idea of this project was born. And then a year of Covid-19 lockdown gave me the time to actually complete it!

As explained on my opening page, this project started out as a showcase for only the best of my best travel photos, with a maximum limit of only 10 photos per country. Well, that proved difficult when I started adding in a few travel stories, useful travel tips, amazing sights, explanations of some of the weirder stuff, etc. So it evolved more into a max of 10 "small-photo-mosaics" per country, since it was impossible to tell some stories with just one photo. Anyway, the intent of the project was to keep each page/country brief, artistic, funny, and useful and I think it succeeds. If nothing else it was a fun project for the no-travel year of 2020.

I tried to make each photo-page more about the country and less about the traveller(s) but if you've traveled to any of these countries with me check the appropriate page - you might be on it!

One final note : The photos on this page are highly compressed and lose a lot of quality when blown up. If you want a hi-res (uncompressed) version of any photos on this website, just email me at surfmot@hotmail.com and I'll send 'em to you for free!
